Hello, and welcome to our blog! We’re glad you are here. Hopefully, you enjoy traveling and have an interest in airstream travel and the United States.
We are Erin and Jeff Wiley from beautiful Ann Arbor MI. We will be departing Michigan in a few days for a 12-18 month adventure around the US in our 25ft Classic Airstream. We have three daughters, two son-in-laws, and two pretty awesome grandchildren that live throughout the US. One in Denver, one in San Antonio and one soon to be in Seattle. We are excited to stop and visit all of them and explore their fabulous cities. We will be traveling with our trusted pooch Ola, our 13-year-old black lab.
Let me put this out there, we are not campers, in fact, we haven’t camped since we could afford to leave our tent behind and enjoy the luxury of a nice hotel, but there was something that drew us to the airstream. I guess because it’s a piece of Americana history and the idea of hauling a silver bullet behind us as we travel the country gave us a great deal of excitement. There are a lot of people out there doing the same thing we are doing. People that have a zest for life and don’t want to miss anything along the way. We haven’t had our airstream long, but since we have, we have met some really great and interesting people, and that’s before we have officially left. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for us.
We have several goals for this trip. Firstly, we want to experience the beauty of our country. We have done a lot of traveling outside of the US, but really haven’t traveled as much in the US as we should have. Secondly, Jeff and I have both lived in Michigan for many years and frankly, we are tired of the cold, dreary winters. We hope to chase 70 degrees around the country, as well as visit our beautiful state and national parks and forest. We are looking for a place to possibly relocate in the future, somewhere warmer and hopefully where the sun shines more often that it does in the Michigan winters.
Why we travel is a pretty simple answer for both of us. What we gain from traveling has changed who we are as people and how we see the world and how we see others. We love being outside of our comfort zone in foreign countries, we love meeting people different from us. We love trying different food and listening to different music and observing different cultures.
Three years ago, we moved to Europe for a year of travel. We each packed one suitcase and left the US. It was a great life experience. We learned so much about different cultures but even more about ourselves. We met so many interesting people along the way and have made life long friends. This was a great travel experience that we hope to do again someday. You can see our European travel blog here.
So now we are off to travel the US. We are super excited for our departure and are looking forward to meeting new friends, seeing old friends, and exploring our beautiful country.
We’d love to have you follow our blog and share your travel experiences. If there are places you think we absolutely should not miss on this trip, please share that info as well.
So if you see a 25ft Classic Airstream driving down the road with a black dog looking out the window, two people in the front singing, and it’s around 70 degrees, there’s a good chance that will be us. Loving our Life in Valhalla!
