Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
We hope everyone’s holiday season was filled with family and friends and your New Year is off to a great start.
It’s been awhile since I have blogged as our travel has changed over the last few months. Once October hit, we had a decision to make. We could get ready to head back to Ann Arbor before the winter snows hit, or we could head south and spend the winter in the warm sun or we could stay put in the Pacific Northwest. Once we hit the town of Port Townsend WA the decision was pretty easy. We have opted to stay in Port Townsend and are very happy with our decision. Port Townsend has a fairly warm winter climate, (highs in the low 50’s and lows in the mid-40’s) Although the weather is mild we decided to put the trailer in storage and have rented a house in town. This was a great decision for us, it’s nice to have the extra space during these few months.
Port Townsend is a small town with a big feel. It offers us everything we have been looking for. It’s a historic seaside community nested between the Cascade mountains, Olympic National Park and surrounded by the Puget Sound. We are surrounded by mountains and water and great hiking. What more can you ask for? The community is educated, friendly, artistic and filled with people who love their life here. Everyone has welcomed us and have made us feel at home. Oh, and did I mention the boats? There are boats everywhere, including tall ships, ferries, wooden boats, sail boats, kayaks and every other type of boat you can imagine.
Jeff is in heaven here. He has landed a temporary part-time job at the Northwest School of Wooden Boat building and is loving each day. He has learned so much from all of the talented area boat builders that live in the community. Below are a few photos of some of the boats that the school is currently working on.
I have been working as a volunteer dog walker at the local humane society. I love each day that I spend walking the trails with the dogs that are waiting for their forever homes. This is a dream volunteer gig for me and I couldn’t have found anything that would make me happier.
As you may have guessed, we are thrilled with Port Townsend and are loving life in the Pacific Northwest.
We are also very fortunate to have our daughter, Carly, her husband Randy and McKenna just a short ferry ride away in Seattle. They are expecting their second baby next week and we are so thankful to be able to be here to welcome that new baby into our family. Our third daughter, Lindsay, get married this year and we have welcomed a new son-in-law, Scott, into the family. Lindsey and Micah are expecting their second son in March and Lindsay and Scott are expecting a baby in August. In 2019 we will be adding three babies to the family. We are excited to see our family grow!
As for our plans for the Spring they are still up in the air. We know we will be back in Michigan by May 1st but we have yet to decide if we will leave Washington in early March and spend a few months back on the road or leave in April and head back to Michigan. I guess only time will tell.
Below are a few links from two full-time Airstreamers that we follow and their blogs from their time spent in Port Townsend.
We hope you are all well and that Spring will soon be on its way to wherever you may be.
